Adoption Background

Mitsubishi Electric Home Appliance Co. develops a wide range of household appliances, including rice cookers, IH cooking heaters, microwave ovens, dishwashers, and air purifiers. In the development of rice cookers, great emphasis was placed on Japan’s traditional rice-eating culture, with a focus on achieving the highest quality of cooked rice.
ROHM was tasked with developing a voice guidance feature to assist with menu settings for their flagship model, the Hon Sumigama KAMADO Tsumugi, which incorporates charcoal in the inner pot. As functionality expanded, so did the number of menu settings, necessitating an intuitive, easily understandable interface. The ML228xx series, which offers voice output and memory capacity well-suited for home appliances, was adopted and developed in collaboration with Mitsubishi Electric Home Appliance Co. to meet all requirements in a single package.

All functions of the rice cooker, from basic operations to specialized cooking settings and methods tailored to various rice brands from across Japan, can now be guided by voice. By effectively designing ADPCM-based audio compression and phrase combinations, we were able to incorporate all the desired features into a single package. This enhances user convenience, allowing everyone to enjoy perfectly cooked rice with the hassle of complex operations.
