Is there any effects on the IC when reverse voltage is instantaneously supplied between the input and output due to discharge of the output capacitor when the power supply is turned OFF?
When reverse voltage is supplied between the input and output of a linear regulator, reverse current flows in the parasitic element within the IC, possibly leading to deterioration and failure. As a countermeasure, we recommend inserting a backflow bypass diode between the input and output or a backflow prevention diode at the input line.
