When starting up a linear regulator with voltage remaining in the output capacitor, if the input pin voltage is lower than the output pin voltage, voltage may flow from the output to the input, possibly causing damage to the IC. Also, there is a chance that the output may overshoot during startup, so it is recommended that an output capacitor be connected to discharge the voltage before startup.Related Link:Technical Document
