The comparator has two output formats, with the behavior differing between push-pull output and open collector/drain output. With push-pull output when the electrostatic protection diode between the output and power supply pins is biased in the forward direction current flows to the power supply pin, which may result in destruction. As a countermeasure, insert a resistor in series to limit the current flowing to the diode to less than 10mA. With open collector/drain output, since there is no diode between the output and power supply pins there should be no problems if voltage is supplied to the output as long as the voltage is lower than the rated value. However, since both output formats fall out of the recommended conditions for use, please conduct sufficient evaluation.
