For the BA178xx/BA178Mxx/BA78xx/BA78Mxx series of linear regulators, what is the behavior of the protection operation when the output terminal is shorted to ground?
When shorting the output and ground, the maximum current is limited by the overcurrent protection circuit to 1A/0.5A (BA178/BA178M). When the product of the input/output voltage and current is greater than a certain value, the safe operating area limiting circuit operates. Continuing to short-circuit to ground will cause the chip temperature to rise and the temperature circuit to activate. It will automatically return to normal operation once the temperature decreases, but will activate again if the short-circuit condition continues.Related Link:Technical Document
