Tsinghua University and ROHM to Hold 2011 Tsinghua-Rohm International Forum of Industries and Academia (TRIFIA 2011)


On April 23, 2011, Tsinghua University (Beijing, China) and ROHM Co., Ltd., (Kyoto, Japan) will hold the 2011 Tsinghua-Rohm International Forum of Industries and Academia (TRIFIA 2011) at Tsinghua-Rohm Electronic Engineering Hall at Tsinghua University. The forum, part of a series of events commemorating the 100th anniversary of the University's founding as well as the opening of the Tsinghua-Rohm Electronic Engineering Hall, seeks to facilitate the discovery and reimagining of the objectives and themes that will guide future technology in new directions and fuel the breakthroughs of tomorrow through presentations of the findings of joint research conducted by Tsinghua University and ROHM, profiles of the areas where joint research is being conducted, and a series of lectures and messages from individuals involved in partnerships between industry and academia. In addition to focusing on thematic areas including communications and broadcasting, biotechnology, power devices and systems, and sensing, the event will feature an exhibit space dedicated to introducing joint research initiatives being undertaken by the partners as well as a selection of state-of-the-art devices from ROHM.

Since signing a Comprehensive Agreement on Cooperation Between Industry and Academia in April 2006 in order to pave the way for the development of advanced technologies through joint research and technical exchanges, Tsinghua University and ROHM have pursued research and exchanges in a broad range of areas including LSIs, semiconductor elements, optical devices and modules, and biosensing as part of a partnership that began with an effort to develop biosensing mechanisms using photonics technology. The two organizations have worked to forge a strong alliance, for example by agreeing to build the newly completed Tsinghua-Rohm Electronic Engineering Hall in September 2008 and hosting the 2010 Tsinghua-Rohm International Forum of Industries and Academia (TRIFIA 2010) in May 2010.

ROHM is confident that the forum will boost the joint research being pursued by the two partners over the long term and strengthen their alliance overall. Program details are as follows:
