About wireless communication

IrSimple enables rapid data transmission. The numbers of mobile phone and digital camera models equipped with IrSimple are continually increasing, making high-speed data transmission possible.

IrDA Communication Summary

A summary of standards for IrDA communication is defined in the "IrPHY" (IrDA Physical Layer Specification).
* Optical wireless communication using infrared light with a wavelength between 850 and 900nm

* Communication
  distance
Low Power 20cm
Standard 100cm

* Communication

SIR : 2.4k, 9.6k, 19.2k, 38.4k, 57.6k, 115.2kbps
MIR : 0.576, 1.152Mbps
FIR : 4Mbps
VFIR : 16Mbps
UFIR : 100Mbps (Standards under formulation)

Although various standards and products currently exist that enable wireless communication, IrDA, using infrared light, is integrated in a wide variety of products and possesses a number of advantages.

Features of infrared light

Infrared light can be widely used for data communication in a number of applications, such remote controls.

Because light is used for communication, there are no applicable legal regulations enacted, such as the Radio Law. It is therefore expected to become a common worldwide communication standard used for high-speed data transmission.

Of course, you can also use it in the public places such as hospitals
and airplanes.The IrDA standard specifies a communication distance of within 1m and 30º, making transmission across long distances or angles of 60º or greater impossible. These physical limitations provide a greater level of security than either encryption or encoding methods.

Originally, IrDA was used to facilitate communications between the PC and other equipment.

Today, IrDA is seeing widespread use in mobile phones in order to provide greater multifunctionality.

Actual examples of use:
・Exchanging e-mail between a notebook computer and a PDA(Personal Digital Assistant).
・Exchange e-mail between mobile phones.
・Transmitting images for a mobile phone to a printer.
Other applications are currently under development, including the following:
・Transmitting programs from a handy terminal to production facilities in a factory.
・Wirelessly setting the car TAG security or office entrance system code.
・Making a cashless payment at a vending machine or restaurant using infrared signals form a mobile phone.
・Wirelessly transmitting blood pressure or other physical conditions measured at home to a host PC for diagnosisi by a hospital physician.
In addition to mobile phones and personal computers, IrDA adds infrared communication capability and unprecedented functionality to virtually any set.
