IrDA defines universal standards for enabling communication between all types of equipment. Thus some preparation is required in order to integrate IrDA-compatible infrared communication functionality to conventional systems.
As shown in the figure to the right, signals such as UART signals cannot be transmitted with the IrDA standard. In order to use such signals, it is necessary to convert them to a form that conforms to IrDA. Possible conversion methods are shown below:
●Incoporate a conversion function into an ASIC personal computer or other device. ●Use an external "IrDA controller LSI"
ROHM offers a lineup of IrDA controllers that have excellent connectivity with IrDA modules for added convenience and peace of mind.

Please use a special IrDA communications module for optical communications. ROHM has developed a number of different products compliant with the IrDA standard for ease of use.
User infomation
IrDA has a structure in which optical devices or LSIs are integrally combined, making certain precautions necessary during usage.
The main questions from customers using [IrDA] are listed below. [ROHM] will present applications for individual models to customers considering the actual use of [IrDA].
