ROHM is the first in the market to develop white LED drivers for backlights capable of real-time automatic brightness adjustment based on the ambient light as well as the brightness of the rojected image. The result is greater energy efficiency and less eye fatigue, even when viewing for long periods.
(Adjustment 1) Save energy by adjusting based on image brightness
Unlike conventional illumination-sensor-only driver systems, where the backlight is fixed regardless of the image brightness, ROHM's white backlight LED drivers adjusts the brightness on the fly based on brightness of the image displayed, optimizing the viewing experience while reducing power consumption.
(Adjustment 2) Save energy by adjusting based on ambient light
A special function is built in that can adjust the drive current automatically in 256 steps to match the input from the illumination sensor IC, ensuring flicker-free viewing and low power operation. Power consumption is reduced to 1/3 that of conventional white LED drivers without an adjustment function.
With superior spectrum sensitivity characteristics close to human visual acuity, ROHM’s brightness sensors ensure a wide range of illumination measurements. Original photo IC technologies enable stable operation with a sensitivity tolerance of approximately ±10%, regardless of different light sources (i.e. fluorescent, incandescent). The result is high precision light adjustment capability with efficient power consumption.
ROHM’ s lineup of AIEs (Adaptive Image Enhancers) features intelligent, hardware-based brightness correction in real time. Only areas that require brightness correction are adjusted, resulting in visibility similar to the human eye.
ROHM’s Xenon tube driver not only integrates all circuits required for flash functionality on a single chip, but generates the ideal light intensity based on the distance to the subject, reducing power consumption. In addition, a newly developed phototransistor interface circuit reduces standby current to less than 1µA while maintaining high speed operation.
