The Industry's Smallest (0805 Size) Transistor Package – VML0805

September 26, 2008 – ROHM formally introduces the world's smallest size transistor package designed for current and next-generation portable devices requiring increasingly smaller, thinner components. A number of technologies were developed, including new bonding methodology and more precise manufacturing techniques, in order to overcome obstacles associated with package miniaturization. The result is the VML0805. At only 0.8mm×0.5mm, with a height of 0.35mm, it is 33% more compact and 36% smaller in volume than the previous smallest product (1006 size). In addition, package power (150mW) is maintained through the use of a high heat dissipation lead frame.

A wide variety of transistor types can be offered in the new package type, including bipolar/digital transistors and small-signal MOSFETs, increasing space efficiency and ensuring compatibility with high density sets. The VML0805 features terminals on the bottom surface and is halogen-free, lead-free, and RoHS-compliant.
