Ultra-low Ohmic Chip Resistors for Current Detection PMR10 and PMR18

ROHM has developed ultra-low ohmic chip resistors between 2mΩ and 10mΩ in the 2012 (0805)[PMR10] and 3216 (1206)[PMR18] sizes for current detection in compact power supplies and surge control circuits requiring further miniaturization in component size and detection resistance. Proprietary manufacturing methods are used for dramatically improved power ratings, and utilization of a special alloy with superior electrical characteristics for the resistive element results in ultra-low resistance values (2-10mΩ) and a resistance temperature coefficient (TCR) of ±150ppm/ºC, making them ideal for HDDs, power supply control in mobile devices such as notebook PCs, and current detection and protection circuits

These two latest additions bring ROHM's lineup of low ohmic resistors for current detection to six [in the 6432(2412), 5025(2010), 3225(1210), 1608(0603), 2012(0805), and 3216(1206) sizes], making it possible to meet the low resistance demands of virtually any application.

Samples will ship December 2007 (sample price: 0.3 US$/unit), with mass production scheduled for January 2008.

  1. Metallic alloy substrate with superior electrical characteristics and greater reliability used for resistive element, making ultra-low resistance (2 to 10mΩ) possible in compact package sizes [2012(0805)/3216(1206)]
  2. Dramatically improved power ratings due to utilization of proprietary manufacturing methods
    PMR10 (L2.0mm×W1.2mm× t0.42mm typ.): 0.5W
    PMR18 (L3.2mm×W1.6mm×t0.42mm typ.): 0.75W
  3. ±150ppm/ºC resistance temperature coefficient (TCR) guaranteed in the ultra-low resistance region (between −55 and 155ºC)
