NewsNews of 2007The Industry's Smallest Zener and Schottky Diodes03.20.2007
Portable devices such as mobile phones and digital cameras are becoming increasingly more compact. Until recently, the smallest Schottky barrier and Zener diodes available were in the 1006(0402) size. ROHM has completed development of a smaller, thinner diode package. The new GMD2 utilizes ROHM's proprietary chip device structure and ultra-precise machining technology in order to dramatically reduce the size and thickness while maintaining the standard electrical characteristics. The package is 67% smaller in area and 20% thinner than the 1006(0402) size but with the same package power as both the 1006(0402) and 1406(0502) package sizes (100mW). Schottky barrier and Zener diodes will be offered in this size - both industry firsts. This package will make it possible to save even more space and increase the board density of products requiring greater compactness and thinness. Main features of the GMD2 package series 0603(0201)
