BU65□□ Series Camera Image Processor LSIs for Security Equipment
Five new models featuring the ideal hardware configuration
12.21.2006
ROHM recently completed development of five BU65□□ Series models capable of handing JPEG compression and expansion for home security equipment. The lineup features the optimal hardware configuration for camera image processor LSIs. Mass production has already begun at a monthly rate of 100,000 units, which can be expanded according to market needs. ROHM headquarters is in charge of the primary stage of production while ROHM Electronics Philippines, Inc. is in charge of the secondary stage.
Nowadays there is a rapid rise of security systems incorporating cameras and digital home electronic products that connect to high-speed networks. ROHM's new BU65□□ Series camera image processor LSIs performs optimized hardware processing, eliminates unnecessary loads on the microcontroller, and operates at high speed with low power consumption, resulting in a high degree of reliability with low heat generation, contributing to a cleaner environment. In addition, the lineup is compatible with resolutions ranging from 300,000 to 3,000,000 pixels, ensuring suitability with a wide variety of camera applications, including intercoms, surveillance systems, and driver recorders.

A versatile lineup is offered that provides the ideal solution to a wide variety of applications, including digital home electronic products, security systems, and video games. ROHM is continuously expanding its product lineups by developing solutions that meet the most demanding requirements.
· Glossary
- Drive recorder:
A device that records vehicle driving conditions via camera. It is often used in taxis and trucks to record images and sound immediately before and after traffic accidents.
- Camera Digital Signal Processor (DSP):
A processor that mainly performs Bayer-to-RGB conversion for CMOS/CCD sensors. The camera DSP incorporates gamma and luminosity compensation, automatic white balance, and auto-focus functions.
- Adaptive Differential Pulse Code Modulation (ADPCM):
A form of pulse code modulation (PCM) that produces a digital signal with a lower bit rate than standard PCM. ADPCM produces a lower bit rate by recording only the difference between adjacent samples and adjusts the coding scale dynamically to accommodate for large and small differences.
