Ideal for Battery Current Detection of Mobile Phones ROHM Develops PMR03
World's First Ultra Low Ohmic Resistor of Metal Plate Type in Size 1608 with Rated
Power of 0.25 W
10.02.2006
ROHM has recently developed the PMR03, an ultra low ohmic resistor in size 1608 with a rated power of 0.25 W. The sample shipment of the PMR03 will start in October 2006 at a unit price of 50 yen. The mass production of the PMR03 will start at ROHM Electronics Philippines Inc. (Manila, the Philippines) in November 2006 at an initial monthly rate of 10,000,000 units.
A further size reduction and resistance decrease are demanded from resistors used for battery current detection of compact portable devices, such as mobile phones, in response to the recent miniaturization and functional development of the devices. The PMR03, which was developed in ROHM's unique manufacturing method, is the world's first ultra low ohmic resistor of metal plate type in size 1608 with a rated power of 0.25 W. Moreover, ROHM adopted a special alloy with excellent electrical characteristics for the resistive element, and succeeded in realizing the PMR03 with ultra low resistance (10 mΩ) and a temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) of ±150 ppm/ºC. The PMR03 is applicable to power control circuits and overcurrent protection circuits that require downsizing, besides the battery current detection of mobile phones.
Features
- Adopted a special alloy plate with excellent electrical characteristics for the resistive element in ROHM's unique manufacturing method.
- The world's first chip resistor of metal plate type in size 1608 with a rated power of 0.25 W.
- Attained ultra low resistance (10 mΩ) and a temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) of ±150 ppm/ºC.
ROHM as a leading manufacturer of chip resistors is proud of the industry's top-level quality, reliability, and supply capability of chip resistors. ROHM has already commercialized three types of products including the PMR25 in size 3225 and PMR100 in size 6432 in a series of ultra low ohmic resistors for current detection. These products have been enjoying great popularity among customers. Since the development of the PMR03, ROHM has established production technology that can support further miniaturization and high-density mounting requirements. ROHM will continue product development meeting customers' needs while striving for a further expansion of product series.
