ROHM develops an ultra-compact, super high-sensitivity, surface-mounted remote control receiver module!

ROHM has developed the RPM5500 Series of ultra-compact surface-mounted remote control receiver modules which take up only 1/16th of the volume than conventional lead type products. Samples are available at 250 yen/pc. And mass production has begun recently at a pace of 30,000 units per month. Production is being done at ROHM AMAGI CO., LTD. in Amagi City, Fukuoka Prefecture.

The number of fields making use of remote control technology has recently grown to include everything from consumer goods to housing fixtures and industrial applications. However, greater application range in remote control functionality and increased use of mobile devices has created greater demand for smaller, thinner technologies.
The RPM5500 Series of remote control receiver modules which ROHM has developed take up only 1/16th the volume of conventional lead type products at a mere 65.3 mm³ for the top-view type or 51.0 mm³ for the side-view type - the smallest in the world - thanks to use of IrDA manufacturing technology. A telephoto lens is used in conjunction with a wide-angle lens, boosting overall performance, including equally high sensitivity as conventional models despite the small size of the modules.
