The ML224x2 series is a new high-quality Audio Playback IC, which has a memory interface to directly access the audio data, stored on external memory. The IC, which includes a high-quality ADPCM2 decoder, 16-bit DAC, a low-pass filter, and a monaural speaker amplifier, incorporates all peripheral components necessary for speech output in a single chip.
The internal memory interface can access external memory up to 128Mbit, which allows storing audio content of more than 2 hours. By using the phrase control table function the maximum playback time can even be increased by storing recurring parts only once. ML224x2 can generate silence phrases which results in further optimisation of the storage space.
On request ROHM Semiconductor can provide a full package of evaluation tools including boards and software to generate the ROM Code and to test the sound quality in the final system.
