BU9000x Series

High Speed Switching Regulator: BU9000x Series

BU9000x series

ROHM Semiconductor developed a new series of DCDC converters with high speed switching frequency. Focus applications are portable devices because the new ICs offer a cost-optimized, small-size solution.

Thanks to the high switching frequency of 6MHz the size of the external inductor and capacitors can be reduced significantly. This fact achieves the effect of small system costs and small space requirements on the PCB. The input voltage range is optimized for portable devices, which are often powered by small batteries or via USB interface. It covers the range from 2.3 to 5.5V and is thus compatible with 3V and 5V inputs. Due to ROHM’s unique automatic PWM/PFM mode switching function the efficiency is significantly higher at low load conditions compared to conventional PWM mode. To reduce noise there is still the option to stay in forced PWM mode if needed.

To comply with the need of low power consumption of battery driven applications, the typical quiescent current was reduced to 40µA. Different part numbers with various output voltages are already available. ROHM’s R&D section is already working on the next generation, which will have an increased switching frequency up to 10MHz.

Key features:

·         High speed switching: 6 MHz

·         Input voltage range of 2.3 V to 5.5 V
