| Ceramic capacitors are susceptible to ringing during voltage changes due to the piezoelectric effects of the multilayer ceramic material, which causes the ceramic to vibrate. Perhaps the most effective countermeasure to this ringing problem is to use tantalum capacitors. Tantalum capacitors are not piezoelectric in nature, and therefore do not vibrate during voltage changes, resulting in no ringing. |

In many instances this ringing problem is found during final set evaluation and must be quickly dealt with before it is shipped to the customer. Otherwise shipment delays and other problems will occur, making it imperative that this issue be resolved in a timely manner. |
