The PSML1 and PSML2 packages developed by ROHM provides a brightness of 7cd in the medium current range (100mA). A Cu frame with high thermal conductivity is used, with the backside exposed, creating a thermal dissipation pathway to the substrate for significantly improved heat dissipation (70ºC/W for the PSML1 and 60ºC/W for the PSML2), even when a heat-resistant FR-4 substrate (a substrate with a glass base material and epoxy resin laminate) is used. As a result temperature-related problems are resolved, brightness variations reduced, and lifespan increased.
