Key Feature 1 : Integrated ambient light sensor block suitable for backlight dimming

ROHM's ambient light sensor reduces power consumption in portable devices and mobile phones equipped with an LCD in a variety of environments by controlling the backlight brightness based on ambient conditions. In addition, in order to prevent malfunctions during conversation or key operation (i.e. when the user's face/a finger is nearby) a proximity sensor is integrated that detects objects and prevents certain operations. Also, the backlights are turned OFF during this time, further reducing power consumption. Only ROHM provides both dimming and malfunction prevention capability on a single chip.

Key Feature 2 : Spectrum sensitivity close to the human eye

The BH1772GLC's ambient light sensor features spectral sensitivity characteristics close to the human eye, resuting in stable sensitivity, regardless of light source (i.e. incandescent, fluorescent, sunlight). The result is optimum performance and visibility in a variety of environments.

Key Feature 3 : Brightness and proximity sensors feature intermittent operation for lower power consumption

Mobile phones and portable devices are normally battery-driven. In order to incrase operation time, the internal components must bring added functionality. The BH1772GLC's ambient light sensor and proximity sensor blocks feature intermittent operation that further reduces power consumption.
