Overview

Precision light detection saves energy while increasing visibility

ROHM ambient light sensors integrate multiple amps, control and interface circuits, and photodiodes on a single chip in order to optimize the waveform of incident light. Internal processing ensures uniform light sensitivity, regardless of light source, while high precision illuminance measurement makes it ideal for current amp laser trimming

Dimmer included for lower LED backlight current consumption

Feature 1: Low tolerance, even with different light sources

●Stable output sensitivity regardless of light source

ROHM ambient light sensors incorporate photodiodes with differing junction depths, enabling light processing internally optimized to match the light source, resulting in minimal sensitivity variations.

●Superior accuracy

Original laser trimming technology utilized for high light detection precision - 30-50% greater than competitor products.

Variation less than ±15%

Feature 2: Gain switching possible via mode setting terminal (analog output type)

Features include 3-stage current output gain switching (BH1600FVC: 2-stage) for compatibility with a wide range of brightness levels: H-Gain for mainly dark environments, M-Gain for both dim and bright conditions indoors, and L-Gain for outdoor environments.
3-stage output switching:BH1603FVC
2-stage output switching:BH1600FVC

Feature 3: High precision measurement via 16bit ADC and direct output

Built-in high accuracy A/D converter ensures precise measurement over a wide range of lighting conditions, from dimly-lit indoor areas to outdoor environments (1 lx steps). In addition, direct illuminance value output eliminates the need for readout processing via microcontroller.
