Overview

An increasing number of portable devices utilize USB for data communications and battery charging. However, countermeasures must be made to safeguard against sudden and unexpected power surges. In answer to this ROHM has developed ultra-compact USB charge protection ICs that make it easy to protect portable electronic devices from abnormal voltages and currents. Simply plug it in.
The BD6046GUL – the newest addition to the lineup – integrates a reverse polarity protection function that prevents inadvertent possible combustion in the event of reverse connection.

ROHM charge protection ICs integrate a low ON-resistance power switch, charge pump, and multiple protection circuits on a single chip. In addition, their ultra-compact size (chip-scale package) – the smallest in the industry – make them ideal for compact, portable battery-driven USB devices of all types.

The rise in battery charging for portable devices via USB makes it increasingly important to protect against failures and possible injury due to external factors such as connector interface and/or supply capability.
