ROHM has developed thermostat output temperature sensor ICs that integrate a temperature detection element and detection circuit on a single chip. The monolithic design provides temperature alarm functionality without the need for complicated, time-consuming circuit development.

Temperature detection circuit design -more burdensome than you'd expect

The current trend towards smaller, faster electronic devices has made temperature control functionality a requisite for stable performance. Conventional temperature detection circuits often use thermistors, which require noiseless, stable reference voltage sources and non-offset comparators, among other circuitry, resulting in the additional burden of component selection and circuit design. In addition, due to the effects of a number of factors, including form factor, size, and internal cooling path, circuit design and modifications are in order, regardless if no changes to the fundamental circuitry are made.

Temperature detection on a single chip

This series integrates a high-precision reference voltage source, comparator, constant current circuit, and a temperature sensing circuit into a single chip, eliminating the need for troublesome circuit design. The internal temperature of the set can be detected and monitored by simply attaching the IC to the board.

Easily switch the detection temperature

ROHM's new thermostat output temperature sensor ICs are available that can switch between three or nine different temperatures. These versatile ICs are ideal for applications where the detection temperature changes due to a change in circuit design during set development or based on the destination region. The need to stock numerous temperature sensor ICs is also eliminated, reducing component management costs significantly while increasing design flexibility.

Easy-to-use evaluation boards available

ROHM has prepared easy-to-use thermostat output temperature detection sample evaluation boards, beginning with the 90°C and 120°C types in the ±5°C interval series, and the 100°C type in the ±2.5°C interval series.
